Rosemary, your enthusiasm for all things Irish is contagious:) The combination of text and photos is like taking a little trip. There was a time that Ireland was on my travel wish list, but traveling is not likely in my future. My Dad went years ago and brought pictures back of Trinity Library. OMG...to see that would be amazing and unreal. Anyway, this post invites the reader into your travels and it's wonderful. Thank you for sharing, it's beautiful!

Trudi, thank you so much for your thoughts! I'm sorry you won't get to go, but I'm glad that you could take a little virtual trip with me!

Oh, oh, oh--Rosemary, you have shared in vivid color evoked deep joy! My day on the Dingle Peninsula and my week in the west of Ireland (Liscannor, at my distant Considine cousins' B & B , just a stone's throw from the Cliffs of Moher) was 10 years ago, but you brought me right back to it. What a gift! Thank you.

You reminded me of my couple of joyfullypressingon posts upon my return. One was called, "One More Hibernophile" and it opened like this:

“He had been thinking of how landscape moulds a language. It was impossible to imagine these hills giving forth anything but the soft syllables of Irish, just as only certain forms of German could be spoken on the high crags of Europe; or Dutch in the muddy, guttural, phlegmish lowlands.”

-Alexander McCall Smith

I'm smitten with the Irish. One week in and around County Clare was all it took. Add me to the long Hibernophile rolls.

My smitten-ness has roots in three emerald green fields: language, history and personality. The ancient Christian history is everywere palpable. It pervades and even preserves, modern Ireland. And there is an "Irish personality," still. It is plain and unpretentious. (More on those in the next post.)

But, oh, how I love their language! The Irish speak like a song."

Oh, so true, Abigail!

I'm so glad you enjoyed the post. I've taken Irish language workshops and it is musical, as you say!

Thanks for the lovely comment - it made me beam and brought me joy!
